Accessibility features in Joomla CMS
The release of Joomla Version 4 saw a major focus on access for all users, introducing new features designed to improve access for people with disabilities and enhance user experience (UX) overall. They are available in both the backend administration and the website frontend.
These accessibility features, which are now built into the Joomla core framework, assist the website to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
This means that all Joomla websites can now benefit by offering the following accessibility options, without the need for adding extra plugins or any extra work. This is pretty ground-breaking stuff for a CMS.
The Text to Speech option is particularly impressive, allowing the user to hear any part of the website explained to them. Try it out on this website.
Keyboard Navigation
Another useful feature that can be enabled on all Joomla 4 websites is a Keyboard Navigation tool. For user visiting the website and using the keyboard to navigate it, this will be the first element to receive focus and give them the ability to quickly jump to a section on the website.
