Web Hosting & Email Services
A home for your website
What is web hosting?
A website needs to be hosted on a special computer, known as a web server, which allows public internet access, in order to be available on the world-wide web. In principle any computer can be turned into a web server and hooked up to the internet, but this would not provide a reliable or secure service. Security and reliability are both major issues with web hosting, and the importance of a good web hosting service cannot be underestimated.
I offer a managed hosting service, if required, with a major UK hosting company called Guru, who are part of UKDedicated. This includes a free SSL certificate to offer encrypted data and security for your website.
You also need to have a domain name registered to you, which will be completely unique. It's a bit like an address or a PO Box. The domain name will be associated with your web hosting account and when your website files are placed on the server to which your account is assigned, the site will become publicly available on the Internet.
If you already have a domain name and/or web hosting account, I will happily work with your existing web host.
Domain names and web hosting services have to be renewed each year. These may be billed separately if the renewal dates are not close together, or I may renew the domain early at the same time as renewing the web hosting. Please refer to our pricing page for information on pricing.
Email Services
All professional hosting accounts offer the facility to set up your own email addresses for your domain. For example, if your domain is mydomain.co.uk, you can set up email addresses -
You will be given access to a control panel where you can easily set up extra email addresses. You can choose to use the online webmail service available with your hosting to view and respond to emails, or you can set up your preferred email program to fetch emails from the mail server and load them into your computer.
